NHL or Non Hodgkin Lymphoma is a cancer that originates from our lymphatic system and it is commonly found in United States. This kind of disease had more than 30 subtypes which could be differentiate from one another through examination of the related cancer tissues. The cause of this cancer is still not known and it has become a heated discussion among the medical society itself. More than 10,000 people die of NHL every year and this number is estimated to increase every year ahead. Therefore it would be useful if we found out about risk factors for NHL.

In many cases, lots of NHL patients didn’t have any risk factors and it is still not known why would some people suffer from this kind of disease and some others did not. Having risk factors could increase your chances of having this kind of cancer though it doesn’t always means a verdict that someone would definitely have NHL cancer in the future. Some people have risk factors but they still didn’t suffer NHL cancer.

One of the existing risk factors is under medication that could suppress your immune system. Since this type of cancer related with lymphocyte, an important components within body immune system, therefore suppressing body immune system would increase your risk in catching NHL. Other risk factors are particular infection that could decrease your body immune system. Weaker body immune system would increase our risk in having NHL. Patient’s age could also see as risk factors, since most patients of NHL are those above 60 years old. As it is said before, not all people who had the above risk factor would end up become NHL patients. It is still unclear the mechanism that works behind the development and growth of this disease. It is expected that in a few years ahead our medical world could give any enlighten concerning cause and mechanism of this disease so that we could do something to prevent it happening.
